Orthodontics for Children and Adults
With so many advancements in orthodontic treatment in the past 30 years, both children and adults can enjoy improved health and straight smiles with greater success than ever before.
Overcrowding and Overlapping Teeth
Crowded teeth are a symptom of other problems. Rather than merely straightening teeth, we evaluate the bite, jaw function and aesthetics of each patient’s smile for ideal results and optimum function.
Issues such as uneven or premature wear, jaw joint pain, headaches and an incorrect bite can all indicate the need for orthodontics.
What Is Functional Orthodontic Treatment?
The job in functional orthodontics is to identify and correct growth and development issues so that when teeth are straightened, stability, comfort, function and facial aesthetics are improved.
- Low tongue position
- Mouth breathing
- Habits such as thumb sucking
- Airway issues
- Poor facial muscle development
- Neck, head and jaw pain
Crowded teeth are indicative of underdeveloped arches, so once developed to their full potential through interceptive treatment, extractions often are not required.
Functional orthodontics achieves results through the use of various oral appliances and braces. Early treatment facilitates the progression more easily promoting the horizontal development of the face with healthy arches.
Adult Orthodontics – Invisalign Clear Braces
It’s never too late for a straight, comfortable smile. If the thought of braces has kept you from a straight smile, we have an innovative and easy solution.
For our adult patients, orthodontics with Invisalign offers our Gladstone patients an option that eliminates the need for brackets and wires. Using a series of crystal clear aligner trays, Invisalign aligners reposition teeth gradually, moving them into ideal alignment.
Since Invisalign aligners are removable, keeping teeth clean on a daily basis is convenient. For efficient treatment results, Invisalign should be worn for at least 22 hours per day, and each set of aligners are worn for approximately two weeks before advancing to the next set in the series.
Invisalign can correct most functional and cosmetic orthodontic conditions. Some complex cases may be best suited for traditional braces. We will always discuss all of your options, along with the benefits of each, to help you make the choice that works best for you.
Orthodontic Retainer Use
All orthodontic treatment requires the use of a retainer to stabilise the teeth and bone. We offer a variety of retainer options to protect your new smile.
